[Anime Review] REC 1-12

REC
[12 episode review]
Hearts: 4.5/5
-Introduction-
I've seen two anime that have the same 12 minuet format as this one- Doujin Work and Potemayo; neither have anything on REC! I'm a sucker for romance. My heart melts when a chracter falls in love even if it's a tracgic love (anyone see Air or Clannad The Movie) that can never work out or seems like it could never work out. REC is sort of that type of anime. You get the best of paradoy anime alongside the best of romance anime. I'm not too sure if this is bassed off a seinen manga, but only the first episode would suggest it is. Afterwards, the rest of the anime is nice and not really fan service filled! I smiled so much knowing I was watching something kawaii that did not have to be ecchi that was a comedy!

-Plot Summary-
Fumihiko Matsumaru is an average salaryman with no girlfriend. He invited his colleague Miss Tanaka to a movie but was stood up. Right at the time he was about to toss tickets into a trash can, a cute girl appeared and asked him not to waste those two tickets. After movie and dinner, he escorted her home and found they live in the same neighborhood, yet unfortunately her apartment caught on fire hours later. Having nowhere else to stay, rookie seiyuu Aka Onda moved to Matsumaru's place, and the two had started a "more than friend but not yet lovers" relationship under the same roof while keeping this secret from their employers.

-The Music-
The music is the only reason I did not give REC 5 hearts. It's pretty average at best. Usually the opening and ending themes are good even if the music throughout an anime isn't. I don't really know why this anime lacked good music despite the rest of it being of excellent quality. I'm hoping that if a second season is ever made (I really wish there will be because the manga wasn't -I think it still isn't- finished when the anime was produced) that more attention will be given to the music which is usually my favorite part of an anime.

-The Visuals-
You know how comedy anime with girls look? You know how somewhat true to life anime looks? Hmm.... I can't really describe how REC looks, so I'll give you an image. I will say (er... post) that the visual styling of this anime is really pretty considering that this anime is about two years old now! It has that somewhat timeless style that lovers of anime and ones who aren't are attatched to. At least I know I am attatched!

-The Story-

Despite REC having a very familiar story line (boy meets girl who has some extremely high dream ends up letting her live at his house, but has troubles thusly causing her to move out then later move back in), the way said story is told gives a nice gush of something like new. I found myself attatched to all the characters, even the undesierables! This anime gets it's 4.5 because of the fresh story that isn't dragged out.

[Anime Review] Fate/Stay Night 1-24

Fate/Stay Night
[24 Episodes Review]
Hearts: 3.5/5
-Introduction-
There really is something about animes based off of a visual novel games that really grip at your heart, yet this one just couldn't do that as well as Air TV, Clannad, Kanon and Ef: A Tale of Memories. Don't get this reviewer wrong! Fate/Stay Night was a good anime, just not as good as others of it's kind.

-The Music-
I have yet to figure out why visual novel game bassed animes have the best music! This anime, despite being the one of the weakest of its kind, still has some of the best anime music out there. Not only is the music good for the anime, it's excellent as manga reading music. I highly reccomend getting the soundtrack for this anime if you ever get the chance.

-The Visuals-
Usually anime of this type have crisp animation, yet Fate/Stay Night wasn't as crisp as others that came before and even after it. When I watch an anime of this type, I expect it to have the best or some of the best visuals out there. When it comes to the animation, this anime lost a lot of points with me. It was pretty plain and average.

-The Story-
I gave this anime most of it's points due to the creative part of the story even though the concept used for the story is pretty old. Adding in epic heroes was brilliant. It's even better when you know the history of some of the characters (if you'd like to understand Saber a lot more -especially for the last few episodes- be sure to read the story 'Le Morte de Arthur' [the death of arthur]). I was able to understand the anime a whole lot more because I knew the history of the epic heroes the chracters were bassed off of. Even though this anime is a romance, not much romance is in the anime. In the end, I found the story to be lacking and repetitive. If you're looking for an anime of this type that is different or at least has enough difference to make it entertaining, this isn't it. I hear you're better off playing the ergo game rather than watching this anime.

[Fall 2008 Anime] Kemeko DX 1

Kemeko Deluxe
[episode 1 review]
Hearts: 2.5/5
-Initial Impression-
My initial impression of this anime was... I can't even describe my initiall impression due to the fact that is anime is so odd. Think Toppen Gurren Lagann but as a... gack, I can't even compare this anime to that! I'm usually the type that adores odd animes, but Kemeko DX just may be a bit too odd. I'm not even sure if I'll watch it to the end, but I'll give it 'till episode 5 or so to get a good impression of where this anime is going.

-The Music-
The music is pretty generic. It sounds alot like other anime I've seen and I can't seem to narrow the list down. If you're looking for an anime with excellent music, you only get top quality music during the fight scenes. Ok, I have to admit the opning and the ending themes/ visuals are hilarious as well as disturbing -.-
________________________________________________________
-The Visuals-
You know those comedy animes that are suppose to also be ecchi anime? Then you pretty much know what this anime looks like. The only desirable art is during the fight scenes and even the stylazation then is pretty out dated. Theron over at ann compares Kemeko's art with that of Ninja Nonsense.

-The Story-
If there's something this anime lacks most, it's an original story! I can't emphesize enough how generic this anime is all the way down to it's basis. If you're looking for an original anime, this is far from it. All in all, only watch Kemeko DX if you're prepared for an unoriginal comedy that is pretty ecchi and fanservice filled.

[Fall 2008 Anime] Ef: A Tale of Melodies 1

Ef: A Tale of Melodies
[Episode 1 Review]
Hearts: 5/5
Introduction:
I'm biased. I have a soft spot for anime based off of visual novel games even though. I have an even softer spot for ones that are odd, define what their genre should be like (and sometimes what it shouldn't be like) or is dramatically different. Ef is this type of anime. It takes what people think visual novel game based anime should be like and twists the norm. When I think of a typical visual novel game based anime there is usually a spiked haird main character, a best friend who can't get a girlfriend no matter what he does and there is always at least four girls that 'love' you. The first season of Ef gave a nice breath of fresh air by taking the typical only to throw it to the side for the non-typical. The main character only has to deal with two girls that 'love' him yet in the end his choice isn't all that hard because the other girl is the one that realizes she doesn't stand a chance! I'm happy to say season two seems to be on the right track :]

-The Music-
This time around, instead of having an opening that is full of English and even has an full english version, we get german (in the background). I'm not too sure why the opening is german bassed considering I've only seen the first episode- I can only assume that one of the main characters (or even two of them) are german. The opening still has an english track but i'm not sure if there's also a japanese version like the first seasons opening did. None the less, the opening not only has breathtaking visuals, the music is still excellent. Even the background music makes me euphoric. As with the first season, I'm in love with the music!!

-The Visuals-
This season still has elements the first possesed- words inbetween random parts of the episode, breath taking way of using colored shadows and so much more. I can't describe the visuals very well, so I'll post some pictures ^__^:

-The Story-
Not much is revealed story wise in this episode. All we really learn about is some minor character points and a few major ones. If you've seen the first season, there are a few characters in this season you'd understand a bit more.
