Fall 2011 Anime PV (w/ pics) [october]

For a lot of these shows I haven't been able to get my hands on much summary wise. Gomen!

Photobucket
[Basics]
Website(s): (1)
Premier Date (Japan): October 2011
Animation Company: ufotable
[Plot/ Synopsis/ Summary]
Type: Prequel, Light Novel based
Summary: The story is set 10 years prior to the events of Fate/Stay Night. The anime will chronicle events taking place during the Fourth Holy Grail War.
[What Akia's Gonna Do/ Commentary]
I've been wanting to watch this one since I heard of it. Ever since watching the Unlimited Blade Works movie I've been more of a Fate fan than ever. It's interesting that this one is a prequel that wasn't even a visual novel or game like most of Fate's other parts (the visual novel is made of 3 parts and there's a fighting game as well) but it was a series of light novels. What most people probably don't know is that before Type Moon was even known as Type Moon some of the members were behind a novel series Kara no Kyoukai (The Garden of Sinners). Guess Type Moon has their roots in light novels.

Full Title: Last Exile 2- Ginyoku no Fam
Website(s): (eng-1)
(jap- 2)
Premier Date (Japan): October 7th, 2011
Animation Company: Gonzo
[Plot/ Synopsis/ Summary]
Type: Sequel
Summary: Not much is known at this point other than that this is a direct sequel with new characters in the same universe as the original Last Exile which was released over 8 years ago.
[What Akia's Gonna Do/Commentary]
Ah Last Exile, it's one of those unappreciated anime I wish more people would watch and love. The opening and ending are some of my favorites, and the "steam punk" style is always a pleasure for the eyes to see. When I heard it was getting a direct sequel I'll be honest, I was a bit shocked. I don't remember the original being all that popular and while doing research on this one the fact that FUNimation already has an English site ready to simulcast the show is even more shocking because when I ask people what they think of Last Exile most say it's an ok show.

Premier Date (Japan): October 7th, 2011
Animation Company: J.C.Staff
[Plot/ Synopsis/ Summary]
Type: Sequel, Light Novel Based
Summary: (I haven't found a summary anywhere, gomen!)
[What Akia's Gonna Do/Commentary]
I've never been much of a Shana fan myself. I watched most of the original season, and even read a few volumes of the manga adaptation. It feels like an average show to me, nothing too special or worth watching.

Animation Company: J.C.Staff
[Plot/ Synopsis/ Summary]
Type: Sequel, Manga based
Summary: Continues the adventures of rookie manga duo Mashiro and Takagi.
[What Akia's Gonna Do/Commentary]
I watched all of the original season as it came out, and it's hard for me to patiently watch an entire series as it comes out. Guess Bakuman is really good... for an anime about creating manga lol.

Apparently the original is heartwarming and good. I wouldn't know considering I didn't even finish the first episode. UMAD ELIJAH!?

[What Akia's Gonna Do/Commentary]
Well I haven't finished the game, but it's really good so far. I have finished the prequel game Persona 3 which has the same setting but different characters. So I have plans to watch this one without a doubt.

He has been avoiding making trouble for others but his life changes when he meets a girl Yuzuriha Inori, a member of a resistance guerrilla group called "Undertaker", whose members pilot mecha weapons to fight against the government.

[What Akia's Gonna Do/Commentary]
Well... I didn't really find any info on this one such as a plot so I'm not really sure. The picture looks neat.... but I just get this gut feeling it's going to be ecchi in some form.

[What Akia's Gonna Do/Commentary]
Sounds similar to MM with the whole club thing, but a lot of anime focus on clubs so this might be an interesting slice of life show.

Just as he reaches to grab it, he ends up on the floor unconscious. Satō has just entered the fierce, no-holds-barred "supermarket survival battle" for half-price bentō.
[What Akia's Gonna Do/Commentary]
Sounds like Akikan, which was a pretty hilarious anime from what I saw of it.

Website(s): (1)

Premier Date (Japan): October 9th, 2011

Type: Manga adaptation, New show

Tormented by solitude, Yukiteru began to imagine things like a friend called Deus X Makina who is apparently the Lord of Time & Space. Seeing Yukiteru's miserable state, Deus gives him a new ability. His diary will now record events that will happen in the near future. Yukiteru is then forced to participate in a game which the winner will become Deus's successor. (from the manga)
[What Akia's Gonna Do/Commentary]
Future Diary is one of those rare really good manga that I believe everyone, even fans of comics, should read. You don't need to be a fan of manga to enjoy it. I'm really looking forward to this anime. I've seen the ova already, and while it did the manga justice considering it was so short I'm hoping the anime does at least as good as the ova did.

[What Akia's Gonna Do/Commentary]
Sounds like some what of a typical science fiction anime. I'll check it out, but no guarantee I'll keep up with it.

[What Akia's Gonna Do/Commentary]
I'm not too sure about what the original is based on but the ova was popular enough a TV version was green lit. I haven't seen the ova, so I'm not sure if I'm going to watch this one.

Together with Nonoha and other Solvers, Kaito battles POG at "philosopher's puzzles" all over the world.
[What Akia's Gonna Do/Commentary]

Premier Date (Japan): October 9th, 2011
Animation Company: Manglobe
[Plot/ Synopsis/ Summary]
Type: Gundam
Summary: (I haven't found a summary)
[What Akia's Gonna Do/Commentary]
I'm still not completely sold on this show. It's meant to be a way to bring in "new generation gundam fans" who didn't grow up with Gundam already. So basically how like yu-gi-oh now how GX and whatever that motercycle one is. Basically all those lazy yu-gi-oh continuations that don't even have yu-gi. Then again, Gundam Builders was pretty good from what I saw so I could be completely wrong and this could be what the Gundam franchise needs. Though I'm a huge fan of Gundam Unicorn.

Summary: In the story of Un-Go, Shinjūrō and Inga work together to solve mysteries in a near future timeline.
[What Akia's Gonna Do/Commentary]
This show is pretty hard to describe considering it's going to be a format like Blue Stories was... I can't really pin point what it's going to be about but it's being animated by Bones and they never fail to release a show I don't like.

The story begins when Arata joins Chihaya's sixth-grade class, but most of the story takes place during Chihaya's high school years.
[What Akia's Gonna Do/Commentary]
There are way to many shows about playing games! I think I'll pass... but it's Madhouse... I might give it a glance... maybe...

Full Title: cube x cursed x curious
Website(s):
(1)

Premier Date (Japan): October 1st, 2011
Animation Company: SILVER LINK
[Plot/ Synopsis/ Summary]
Type: Light novel adaptation, New series
Summary: The story begins when a high school student named Haruaki Yachi receives a mysterious, super-heavy black cube from his father overseas. That night, Haruaki wakes up to a suspicious noise in the kitchen, and he discovers a "fully naked female thief of rice crackers." The girl, Fear, is the first of several surprises that Haruaki receives.
[What Akia's Gonna Do/Commentary]
Light novel adaptations lately have been better than manga simply because there aren't many illustrations to go off of, which makes it easier for the animation company to come up with a style to fit the series.

Christmas in the Silent Forest

My friend Elijah gave me a link to get this, a very rare to find opening for GITS that only played on Japan's satelight showing. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did a few years back when I was unfortunate to stumble upon it only to find the video got taken down a few hours later.

Im using this video under fair use to promote GITS. No profit is being made.

[GIS] Basic Supplies

Some of you out there in the virtual cyber world may be asking "but Akia, what is a Gundam?" I say to you how can you be an otaku and not know what a Gundam is. *sigh* I'll tell you briefly anyways. For someone who isn't an otaku, Gundam are similar to Transformers. Gundam are giant robots basically. Some god American examples would be shows like Megas XLR and IGPX. Here's a video of the type of Gundam (model kits to be exact) that this blog series is for (not just this one, but almost all Gundam kits out there that are snap together).

This entry is dedicated to the kind of supplies you need to build a Gundam (excluding any sort of painting, that'll be in a different entry). I'll go over which ones you will need and ones that are optional (just depends on the kind of method you use) A * indicates one you will need unless otherwise mentioned:

#1 *Clippers aka Nippers-
you dont really need them for sd and no grade kits but for all the other ones it's best to have a pair because ive learned from trying that twisting pieces off the runners can cause then to break

#2 *Exacto Knife (or hobby blade)-
used for cutting off excess pegs

#3 cutting board-
some people don't need one of these cause they can cut off the pegs in their hands but I like using one to be safe, to help prevent getting cut. make sure it's a crafting cutting board and not one for food

4 Black Gundam marker-
not exactly needed, but Gundam markers are made specifically in size for accurate panel lining. you can also buy them in other colors for coloring

5 Q-tips-
I learned Q-tips are good for wiping of excess marker, you can also use an eraser or your fingers

5 Tweezers-
I recently learned tweezers are really good for taking decals off their sheets and placing on a Gundam

6 Tooth-picks-
good for getting decals to lay flat

Next time I'll be going over some more advanced tools such as metal files and paints. I'll have pictures for those since some of them aren't found in a household. Stay tuned to reader//watcher[girl] and AugReal.

[Anime of the Week] Mawaru Penguindrum (7/31-8/6/2011)

So um... the Summer 2011 anime season has been well under way (most series are now at 4-5 episodes) and there are some interesting shows playing, one namely being the one I've chosen as AOW this time. Interesting fact is this anime is being directed by the same one as Utena. You can really tell when side views of the characters faces are shown, so keep an eye out all ye Utena fans who have been waiting for the directors next work to finally come out.

[Anime of the Week] The Big O I & II (6/19-25/2011)

[Anime of the Week] Ao no Exorcist (5/29-6/4/2011)

This past spring season of anime has left me sad. There were tons of anime I had been looking forward to such as Deadman Wonderland and Steins;GATE that saddened me... in the end I've only really kept up with Ao no Exorcsit and Nichijou =/

"6 Manga You Must Not Read" [commentary]

I did some research on the manga found in this Sankaku Complex article. It was hard finding most of these on the manga reader sites I use most...

The cover of this first one is very interesting. The whole swim suit mixed with a wedding dress is apparently every otaku's dream to have a girl wear for them. You'll have a hard time finding this one in English because according to Baka-manga it was never translated.

I know someone who is a big fan of Aki Sora, and I personally have started reading this one here. Normally I don't read manga with incest (I dropped Onii-chan after only a few chapters), but this one comes highly recommended so I decided to give it a chance.

This one actually peaked my interest the most, but yet again Baka-manga has it as not translated. =(

The other manga listed I have no interest in at all 'cause they apparently were made just to please the perverted otaku out there who have no life outside of their room.

[Gundam News] 1/144 HG GM III (to be released in July) [by striker0]

Bandai is giving love this time around to Gundam Unicorn, in the form of the RGM-86R GM III. This is from ZZ Gundam bear in mind, and not the Unicorn version, which has different colors As some know, the GM is the mass produced version of the Gundam, using similar technologies, but also keeping it's cost down by not using some of the more complex systems that the prototypes use.

This model is due out in July, and at around $20 or so depending on the current exchange rate, it's sure to make some of us mass produced or grunt type lovers happy.

5/3/11

[Anime of the Week] Elfen Lied (5/1-7/2011)

I just finished reading the manga version yesterday and decided to give the anime version a rewatch. I'm on episode 12 as I post this and it's very evident the anime did a bad job of putting the moments needed to actually make me cry like the manga did. If you haven't read the manga and liked the anime you better go read it!

Synopsis:
The Diclonius, a mutated homo sapien that is said to be selected by God and will eventually become the destruction of mankind, possesses two horns in their heads, and has a "sixth sense" which gives it telekinetic abilities. Due to this dangerous power, they have been captured and isolated in laboratories by the government. Lucy, a young and psychotic Diclonius, manages to break free of her confines and brutally murder most of the guards in the laboratory, only to get shot in the head as she makes her escape. She survives and manages to drift along to a beach, where two teenagers named Kouta and Yuka discovers her. Having lost her memories, she was named after the only thing that she can now say, "Nyuu," and the two allow her to stay at Kouta's home. However, it appears that the evil "Lucy" is not dead just yet...
