[Summer 2009 Anime] Akia's Watching [#1]

I may have a HUGE list of anime I'm watching from this current Summer anime season... but I'm not actually watching all of them as they come out even though I'm downloading them. Haha. I'm still finishing off Spring anime such as 07-Ghost that have yet to finish while starting the Summer season.
So far, I've watched 2 episodes of Needless. The anime is pretty crazy and it is parody-ing tons of fighting anime.... and this isn't necessarily good like other parody anime are. When this anime gets emotional or sappy, it is in your face!! GRAH. I'm not sure why I want to watch more of this, but for some reason beyond me I do >.>
[plot- In the near future, mankind has suffered from a Third World War, leaving extreme damage all over and forced mankind to become even more distinct from their species. The world was at chaos and from this chaos comes a new species: “Needless”. The Needless are humans who have contracted a “disease” as humans may call them, and allow them to wield extraordinary powers far superior to any mankind. Their abilities include Telekinesis, elemental powers, gravity control, adaptation, radioactive release and all manners of scientific impossibility. (ann)]

If I had to pick an anime to replace my love for Dennou Coil, this would probably be that anime. This may not be the same kind of anime (fantasy sci-fi) but the character relationships are really captivating. I'm loving every second of this anime, and I'm only two episodes in. This anime is Tokyo Mgnitude 8.0.
[plot- The premise of the project is the 70% or higher possibility that a magnitude 7.0 earthquake will occur in Tokyo in the next 30 years. The anime will depict what would happen if an 8.0 earthquake took place. The story will center on Mirai, a middle school freshman girl who goes to Tokyo’s artificial Odaiba Island for a robot exhibition with her brother Yutaka at the start of summer vacation. A powerful tremor emanates from an ocean trench, the famed Tokyo Tower and Rainbow Bridge crumble and fall, and the landscape of Tokyo changes in an instant. With the help of a motorcycle delivery woman named Mari who they meet on Odaiba, Mirai and Yutaka strive to head back to their Setagaya home in western Tokyo. (ann)]
The first episode really impressed me. It was funny and the fireworks were quite bueatiful.... then I watched the second episode only to find out it is a magical girl anime. Isn't there already a magical mermaid anime out there? OH YAH, it's called Mermaid Melody. Pshhh, this is like a more modern version without the signing. *sigh* But the animation is sooo pretty!! This anime is called Umi Monogatari ~Anata ga Ite Kureta Koto~.
[plot- The story centers on Marin and Urin, two “pure” sisters who live alongside the fish in the sea, but yearn to be in the world beyond the water and above ground. One day, a beautiful ring falls in the middle of the sea, and Marin and Urin retrieve it. The two decide to leave their waterbound world for the first time to deliver the ring. After an arduous journey, they come across an isolated island where a high school girl named Kanon lives. The encounter between Marin and Kanon — the maiden of the sea and the maiden of the skies — awakens a hidden power as the world is threatened by an enveloping darkness. (ann)]
Something about the pv trailer for Bakemonogatari made me want to watch this particualr summer 09 anime more than the others. Way more. It may have been what seemed to be a focus on art (but the anime is not about art) and the really pretty animation style (which, btw, the picture does not do justice to)... but it turns out this anime is more like Ef in it's animation style. I love the Ef anime!! Soooo, I love this... but it also seems to be a mix of the Sayonara Zetsuba-sensei anime style. Hmm. I haven't seen that anime. By the way, Bakemonogatari is one of my favorites this season. I've seen episodes 1-3 so far.
[plot- Bakemonogatari centers on Koyomi Araragi, a third year high school student who is almost human again after briefly becoming a vampire. One day, a classmate named Hitagi Senjōgahara, who infamously never talks to anyone, falls down the stairs into Koyomi’s arms. He discovers that Hitagi weighs next to nothing, in defiance of physics. After being threatened by her, Koyomi offers her help, and introduces her to Meme Oshino, a middle-aged homeless man who helped him stop being a vampire. Koyomi Araragi is almost hman again after briefly bcoming a vampire. When Hitagi falls down the stairs into his arms, he discovers he wieghs almost nothing, and offers her help from a middle-aged man. Koyomi encounters different apperitions in a series of interconnected stories. (ann)]

I started reading the Higurashi manga when it was in Yen+.... but stopped when they no longer released it in the magazine BUT now I'm watching this anime though it's not directly related to the characters of Higurashi- Umineko no Naku Koro ni is actually a different section in the When they Cry universe. I've only seen the first episode, and it wasn't all that creepy.

[plot- Umineko no Naku Koro ni takes place in the year 1986, during the time frame of October 4 and October 5 on a secluded island named Rokkenjima (六軒島, Rokkenjima). The head of a wealthy family named Kinzo Ushiromiya, who lives on and owns Rokkenjima, is near death, and eight of his family members arrive on the island to discuss how Kinzo's assets will be divided once he is dead. Also on the island are three family members who live there, five of Kinzo's servants, and his personal physician. After the eight family members arrive, a typhoon traps them on the island and shortly after people start to get mysteriously murdered. (ann)]
