[AOW] Gakuen Babysitters (1/21-27/2018)

There once was a time where I really wanted to not like cutesy anime because I felt that it was hard to explain how anime "was not just for kids, nor perverts" when I myself was watching anime that could fall in one if not both of those categories. One day I decided to stop defending my tastes (a big example of this is I really enjoyed the anime 07-Ghost which I was constantly teased for because my friends considered it a perverted boys love anime where as I completely disagreed); I decided that there was (and continue to be) plenty of anime that fell out of those categories that in order to defend all anime I'd also had to admit there existed the cute and the pervy along with the more series plot-line driven ones. Anime honestly wouldn't be anime if the extremes didn't exist!

These days I don't have the time to watch every anime that is playing. Instead of trying to do this I watch the titles that I initially want, then if a series has enough hype I try to go back and watch after about half the episodes are released. It's hard to watch a toddler when you're trying to read subtitles on a screen. So lately I've also been watching complete, dubbed series on Hulu that I didn't get to watch when initially released (such as My Hero Academia and Accel World). When I have some time to myself I'll watch a few subbed episodes or while watching my tot I can watch simple anime that I don't really need to read to understand. That's where a series like Gakuen Babysitters is perfect! I have a part time job watching kids ages 6 weeks to 9 years old so in a way this show is a bit like my working life... though I'm 27 not a teenager.

    [AOW] Young Black Jack

    [Facebook][MyAnimeList][GoodReads][MyFigureCollection]

Let's be really honest for a second or so, this season of anime (Fall 2015) is off to a pretty lame start. I feel as if last season was really good so I honestly went into this one expecting at least one or two stand out anime but so far all of them are pretty average at best. [here's a post I'll be updating as I watch the first few episodes of each anime this season I deem worth my time. I'm skipping a lot this season such as Attack on Titan High School because the manga is so laaaame] The only two I was truly excited for this season was today's feature and One Punch Man. So far, Young Black Jack is well animated but the stories so far (i've watched both episodes that are out so far) are pretty typical. Nothing too exciting, though I have to give this one credit. A lot of surgeries that can be done today without having to be too concerned (in episode 2 there's a focus on heart transplants which now a days organ transplants from one live donor to another are far simpler and no one bats an eye as much as they did in the days YBJ takes place) are being showcased as pretty risky. I have hopes this anime will excite me more as it gets into later episodes but even if not, the young Black Jack (which he's not known by this name yet) happens to be some nice eye candy!

    [AOW] Silver Spoon

Rarely does an anime catch my attention these days to where I have to marathon it. Silver Spoon is the first anime in a long time that is just feel good and makes me want to do what has been done in the anime- learn various agriculture business' such as dairy farming and how to raise pigs to make them into bacon. I may be too late to learn such things, but one can dream can't they? Anywhosildoodles, this one is by the same manga-ka as Fullmetal Alchemist buuuut it's very different from that.

[AOW] Shingeki no Kyojin: Kuinaki Sentaku

     [Facebook][MyAnimeList][GoodReads][MyFigureCollection]

Attack on Titan is possibly the most well known current hype anime along side Sword Art Online. When both of these anime came out both fans and non-fans of this animation style that comes from japan at least knew about these shows. I personally really loved AoT. The animation was just so eye pleasing and the music was just so hype. I loved the story, and the maneuver gear concept was and still is possibly one of my all time favorite contraptions in anime that I hope one day becomes a reality. I currently have been playing the game that recently came out in the Nintendo eShop. Also I've been keeping up with the English releases of Before the Fall. I never really liked reading the original manga, but this one is just so interesting. Anyways, I decided to not feature the original AoT ova but the 2 episode one about Levi before he was part of the corps ^_^

[AOW] Your Lie in April (3/22-28/2015)

     [Facebook][MyAnimeList][GoodReads][MyFigureCollection]

I try to rarely feature anime I haven't at least seen the first episode of, but since this gem of a series was recommended to me by several of my good anime watching friends I decided to feature it the same week I'm going to be starting it. I did watch half an episode back when this premiered but for some reason I never finished the episode... nor did I remember about the series. Maybe the episodes I had got deleted when I lost a good chunk of my anime a few months ago. oh well! I'm going to be watching it now and that's all that matters :3 You might notice this anime started in fall of 2014 but didn't finish until March 20th 2015. Kind of strange since it's only 22 episodes. Maybe there was a delay or something between episodes!

Even two years later, Kosei hasn't touched the piano and views the world in monotone, and without any flair or color. He was content at living out his life with his good friends Tsubaki and Watari until, one day, a girl changed everything. Miyazono Kaori is a pretty, free spirited violinist whose playing style reflects her personality. [AOW] ISUCA (3/8-14/2015)

    [Facebook][MyAnimeList][GoodReads][MyFigureCollection]

Well... this was kind of a surprise. ISUCA has one of the most shocking first episodes of an anime I've seen in a while. I actually watched this one having no idea what it was about; I started it because I was out of anime to watch for this season so I decided to try a few of the shows I hadn't started yet or ones I originally was not going to watch (in this case was ISUCA and Yuri Kuma Arashi). This anime kind of gave off an Inuyasha vibe at first... but then took a complete turn... so yaaaaa. I'm not sure when I'll get around to watching more episodes but it wasn't a bad first episode.

[AOW] Shinmai Maou no Testament (2/15-21/2015)

    [Facebook][MyAnimeList][GoodReads][MyFigureCollection]

Normally these "why'd I bother" specials are of an anime I already finished watching. I believe in giving each series a full watch through before I can declare if it really was a waste of my precious anime watching time, but this anime is a special case because it's still airing and yet I still find myself making sure I at least have the episodes to watch when I need something to either not pay too close attention to or if I'm out of current anime to watch. From what my boyfee has told me, this anime is way too much like Highschool DxD which seems to be madly popular with the male anime watching demographic though I do know some females who have enjoyed it... which sadly gives me even more of a reason to never bother watching Highschool DxD if it is so similar to SMnT.

For the most part, I have nothing really so say about this anime other than it's really not my cup-o-tea. I'm not saying this just because it's so fan servicy, but because the story is so over done. There's nothing really original or an original take on such a plot so this one sits in the "pretty boring" pile of series'.

Well... this has turned more into "anime of the whenever Akia feels like posting one" :/ Gomen, gomen! ANYWAYS, here's the first AOW of the new year :3

    [Previous AOWs][Akia's MyAnimeList][Akia on Facebook]

I am probably one of the very few who has not read the manga for this anime, but I've known about it since like I became an otaku online back in 2009. My excitement for this show when it was announced was the most excitement I've experienced since Oreimo and The World God Only Knows were announced to be getting new seasons. I rarely get super excited for an anime because I like to keep my hopes and dreams low so any series can be at least watchable for the first few episodes... but this one just screamed "Alicia (aka Akia) you will LOVE me!!"

    [AOW] DearS (10/12-18/2013)

    [Previous AOWs][Akia's MyAnimeList][Akia on Facebook]

Yes, those are crickets you're hearing because this show is a HUGE waste of space. What was suppose to be Chobits but with aliens ended up being so bland and try hard there was nothing really to save it other than mediocre animation and a lack luster sound track. You're better off watching Sora no Otoshimono which has some funny jokes despite the lacking story. The only reason to watch DearS might be because it's by Peach-Pit (creators of Shugo Chara and Rozen Maiden), yet I'd have to say you'd be pushing the reason bank if that's the only reason you watch this... or you might be a perv cause this anime trys too hard to be "sexy".

[AOW] Danna ga Nani o Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken (10/5-11/2014)

    [Previous AOWs][Akia's MyAnimeList][Akia on Facebook]
Last season my favorite anime (Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun) was a short series about a manga creator and the girl who happened to fall for him, and a cast of wacky characters who helped make their life's fun. When that anime ended, a piece of my anime loving heart needed filling. I have yet to watch a single episode of Danna ga Ken, but I have a feeling it's going to be a wacky series that can fill that Nozaki-kun sized hole in my heart.

    [AOW][Why'd I Bother?] Love Stage!! (9/21-27/2014)

    [Previous AOWs][Akia's MyAnimeList][Akia on Facebook]

*sigh* Ok, so this anime isn't bad... the premise is just what get ...s me. I'm not a fan of guy x guy at all so the only reason I even gave this a chance was because I went to a pair of friends apartment where they decided to watch a few episodes (by a few, I mean 6 out of the 10) because of DAIGO being the brother in this show. If it had the main character actually be a girl I'd prob enjoy this series more- in fact, I kind of liked it... then a scene would come into play where the character was basically getting raped. No bueno! ... I might finish this one since I only have 4 episodes left to watch :/ Tho I already know how it ends.

    [AOW] Tokyo ESP (9/7-13/2014)

    [Previous AOWs][Akia's MyAnimeList][Akia on Facebook]

While people are busy talking about Akame ga Kill and Tokyo Ghoul, Tokyo ESP has been making it's own treads. It's a pretty good anime so far that some surprising "gore" moments (such as the picture above from episode one where a set of guys hands were chopped off) that aren't too over the top like those in Tokyo Ghoul (which I'm still debating on if I should keep up with it or drop until all the episodes are out). Anyways, I am thinking this one is going to be one of my favorites of this season.

    Type: Manga Adaptation
Genre(s): Action, Comedy, Sci-fi, Shounen, Super Power
    # of Ep(s): 12
    Synopsis:
The science fantasy story Tokyo ESP begins with Rinka, an extremely poor high school girl who lives with just her father in modern Tokyo. One day, she is going home from school when she chases a "flying penguin" to the top of New Tokyo Tower—only to have "fish swimming in the air" suddenly appear before her. One of the fish goes through Rinka and gives her extraordinary powers beyond those of normal humans, particularly the ability to slip through solid objects.

[AOW] Persona 4: The Golden (8/31-9/6/2014)

    [Previous AOWs][Akia's MyAnimeList][Akia on Facebook]

No need for me to front with you, but when I first heard that P4: The Golden was getting the anime treatment like Persona 4 did... I was a bit wary. I didn't really like the animation style of the first anime (I mean look at this picture, everyone seems to have some form of a 5 o'clock shadow >.>while this looked cool in the game yet much more unnoticeable, on screen in anime format this made the coloring look awkward on the eyes much like how in Gankutsuou the weird photo shop layers took some time to get used to). So far I am relieved to say it has been much easier on the eyes!

    [Previous AOWs][Akia's MyAnimeList][Akia on Facebook]

I guess these past few weeks have made this "hype anime month"... which has not been my intention for August at all! Personally I don't like Host Club as much as most fans of anime who live in the states do... but it is a very enjoyable anime when you want to be cheered up. I decided to have it as AOW because I'm in the middle of re-watching the series as I work on Yugioh videos (I have a YouTube channel that's been more coverage of my antics in the TCG world than anime lately). I tend to "watch" things in English when I need to focus on multitasking. ANYWAYS, I decided instead of including a trailer this time around that you should enjoy 34 minuets of bloopers from the series :D

    [AOW] Akame ga Kill! (8/10-16/2014)

    [Previous AOWs][Akia's MyAnimeList][Akia on Facebook]

Hype anime usually isn't my cup o' tea until years down the line after all the hype has died for the most part down (I didn't watch SAO nor Attack on Titan until they had been put on Netflix because I just don't like people being so hype about a piece of animation only to have that animation not be as good as its hype suggests)... but for Akame ga Kill I knew it would be hype yet I decided to watch the first two episodes when I didn't have anything to do at my local card shop. When I was about to finish episode two one of my friends came up to me and said "don't watch that anime unless you've read the manga." I looked at him, asked "Why" only to be told it has Game of Throne syndrome... well, I had just started reading the first volume of GoT sooo I knew of the syndrome, just hadn't experienced it. Needless to say, I've decided to go ahead and watch this anime because it seems to be the only anime people are talking about (which is pretty shocking considering SAO II is also playing this season).

For this weeks AOW I decided to pick something I haven't even remotely watched yet... and something that made some of my friends laugh for a few days cause of a panel in the manga adaptation.... [AOW] Black Bullet (4/27-5/3/3014)

Sorry about the long delay of posting one of these! I've been very focused on being in my local TCG circuit (been getting pretty decent at Yugioh, Vanguard and a few other trading card games) in order to prep for the October YCS. This will be my first time going to a big event for a card game rather than anime or comics. I'm pretty nervous considering right now I have very little chance of making it even through the first of two days. Enough of that little rant, I'll prob post more entries on Yugioh in the future (such as deck profiles of what I currently play), but let's get to what you came here for- ANIME OF THE WEEK! =^_^=

    [previous AOWs][Akia's MyAnimeList]

I've been on an ultra loli run for a few weeks now thanks to one of my newer buddies who himself is a pretty big loli fan... I've always been a fan but I never really embraced this side of me. In fact I used to make fun of a few people who were the type of fan I am. I used to project myself as a fan of smut more than loli where as in fact I'm an almost equal fan of both. Well, it's about damn time I've given in an embraced the ultra cute culture Japan has been releasing called "loli". Time to aww at cute girls who aren't exactly suppose to be girlfriend material cause they are too young :P

    [AOW] #100 SPECIAL (1/26-2/1/2013)

I can't believe I've been doing this AOW series for about 6 years now... time flew right on by! Technically there should be more than 100 at this point but as you all know life gets in the way sometimes. There have been weeks I had to skip due to being at conventions, being in school, and many other reasons. Thanks for those who have been here since the beginning and all you new fans (I don't have many right now but I appreciate you all). Here's to 100 more~ and getting more fans. I am thinking about after this 100th special reformatting how this little series here works :3 Instead of featuring just ONE anime this week I decided to feature some of my all time favorite series that I haven't really hyped up but should.

Bartender follows the nightlife of RyÅ« Sasakura, a bartending prodigy who is said to mix the best cocktails anyone has ever tasted. Sasakura bides his time in a bar named Eden Hall, hidden in a nook of the Ginza district in downtown Tokyo. It is said that normal people cannot simply find and enter Eden Hall, but they must be invited in by the host. Over the course of the anime, various figures of high and low stature, all of whom share unusual troubles and heavy burdens, are "invited" into Eden Hall and are treated to Sasakura's fine drinks, which, with guidance from the young bartender, lead the customers to reflect upon their lives and decide on a course of action to tackle their problems.

Sato Yo is a high school boy who likes SEGA games. One day, he enters a grocery store to buy some food for dinner. When he tries to take a bento box, he loses consciousness. He comes around to find all the bento sold out. He notices there is a war game going on at grocery stores and players called "Wolves" compete for the half-priced bento. Yarizui Sen, the leader of the Half-Pricer Club, forces Yo to join the club and he enters the bento war.

In the city where Shiki lives, something triggers a spate of mysterious schoolgirl suicides. The connection between the girls who leapt to their deaths is unclear, although all of them have jumped from the Fujou Building, a skyscraper scheduled to be demolished. Meanwhile, Mikiya, after having gone near the Fujou Building, has fallen into a coma. Shiki heads to the Fujou Building herself to save Mikiya. And waiting for her there…is Kirie Fujou. The girls' suicides and Mikiya's coma were all caused by Kirie. Terminal illness had left her bedridden and immobile in a hospital, but one day, she acquires a spiritual body, a separate entity from herself.
